Functional Medicine Health Coach
Functional Medicine Health Coaches use Functional Medicine principles and positive psychology to:
*Educate clients and help them understand their doctor's plan of care
*Offer tools and accountability when clients implement new lifestyle changes
* Motivate clients using positive psychology techniques
* Guide clients through dietary changes, food plans and physical activity protocols
*Lead clients through coaching sessions on specific topics
* Work directly with client's practitioner when appropriate
* Celebrate successes and encourage progress
Functional Medicine Health Coaches know there’s more to a healthy lifestyle than fad diets and unsustainable exercise regimens. There’s a gap between what clients know they need to do to be healthy and the intrinsic motivation they need to actually make and sustain those changes. Coaches bridge that gap.
My Passion to Help Others...
I spent the first 45 years living my life to the fullest and fulfilling my dreams. I was an athlete in my youth and a coach as an adult. I met my husband in college and achieved my dream of a large family by having 11 beautiful children. When the youngest went to kindergarten, I completed my education and began my teaching career.
When I turned 45 I began to experience some health issues. My general practitioner prescribed a medication to cover up my symptoms, a sleeping pill called Dalmane, which sent me on a downward spiral. Some years later I was able to safely taper off and heal from this horrid pill through a program called Point of Return (www.pointofreturn.com). Through my journey off this prescription medication, I gained a passion for learning all I could about functional medicine, which focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of diseases and treats the whole system – not just the symptoms – through a patient-centered approach. The more I learned, the more I realized that my life’s calling was to help others find true health through coaching.
Functional medicine health coaching is all about healing the whole body through diet, as well as physical, mental and spiritual balance. The focus is on working in the five areas that create true health:
1. Sleep and Relaxation
2. Exercise and Movement
5. Relationships (healthy social life with family and friends)
As a coach I walk with my clients as they choose the areas they want to explore at a pace they are comfortable with. We all know what it is like to set a goal, work toward it, and still come up short. As a coach I can help you disrupt that pattern. Health is so much more than how often you go to the gym or how much kale you eat! I provide accountability, resources, support, and encouragement to people who want to change their lives in meaningful ways.
Transitioning how we think about health can be a bit overwhelming – this is where I come in as I help guide you to it and through it in our time together. I will help you find ways to create new habits and, perhaps more importantly, you will gain the tools you need to get back on track when an obstacle gets in your way. Game changer? No! this is a life-changer.
